Artefact of the day 3/8

August 4, 2012

The artefact of the day was found by Sanni in the burnt peat and ash feature we think is our northern house. It is a drill bit  beautifully ground from Alaska jade or nephrite which is found in the Kobuk River, some 700 miles to the north of our site.  The end of the bit has a point formed from four ground facets and it is identical to early Thule drill bits found in the Eastern Arctic sites in Canada.
