Interesting features revealed…

August 8, 2012

After a frustrating process of removing a thick sod deposit for the last few days in the south end of our trench, we have uncovered some interesting features. We had already identified two possible house floors, though only in patches. We now have two distinctive house floors separated by a sod wall running north-south. This sod wall is over 1.2m wide and has produced some interesting artefacts such as a small slate ulu blade and more excitingly an ivory pendant. The sod wall is likely to be associated to one of the house floors and these two features could be part of a possible side room. It is clear now that the wall truncates the other house floor which means our possible side room constitutes a later event. Let’s find out what this earlier house floor and later side room are all about !

Thank you for the updates! I wouldn’t mind seeing more pictures of the locals that are helping out in this endeavor. Would you be able to explain how the local Tribe is going to directly benefit from your project? Thanks again!
