Tunnel turned upside down…

August 11, 2012

The new squares we opened today, west of our presumed tunnel roof, revealed that the line of boards continues at least another two meters – and head straight for the side room we excavated in 2010. They are almost certainly part of the same structure. Removal of the heavily charred boards in the other end of the boards led to the find of another set of boards, and house floor. Everything points towards the tunnel going the other way from what we thought yesterday, which means that the entrance faced the sea, with the side room of 2010 being the entrance. Consequently the central room is located under the mound east of our boards. Ergo; good and bad news – the house is probably still intact under the sod and not washed out to the sea as we feared, but this means some serious dirt shifting the coming days…
