Arefact of the day 11/8

August 12, 2012

The artefact of the day was found by Jessica in the northwestern part of the trench, in a square that we now think might have been a side room of the burned house. It is an oil lamp made of  ground stone, and it looks like the wick might still be in it. This is the first lamp found at the site. It was standing on a charred woven grass mat. Jessies side room may have been used as a storage room. A large number of pots have been found in the square, as well as fragments of a bent wood vessel. The fire seems to have been very heavy in this part of the house, and most artefacts have been damaged in the fire.
