Artefact of the day 20/8

August 21, 2012

The artefact of the day was found by Sanni when she was excavating the foot of a dug down feature in the old southern house. It is a carved wooden seal; simple but yet very characteristic. We believe is part of the same assemblage as the duck found a few days ago. Maybe it was even mounted to the same post. It is a cermonial seal, used in feasts and ceremonies. It is customary that the Nunalleq excavation finish with the find of a seal, so there can be no doubt the dig has come to an end 🙂
