Artefact of the day 9/8

August 10, 2013

Pirate LindseyBelugaThe artefact of the day was found by Lindsey (wearing a site-made eye patch due to a vicious mosquito bite) in the interface between house floor and the context above it in the southwest block where we have been hunting house floor the last few days. It is a tiny beluga whale beautifully carved out of a beluga tooth. A similar beluga whale was found at Nunalleq in the 2010-excavation, and is currently on display at King’s Museum in Aberdeen.
