Artefact of the Day 20/8

August 21, 2014

Image 6The artefact of the day was found by Jacqui in the house floor of the men’s house. It is a complete hafted drill, with a nephrite  (jade) drill bit inserted in a wooden handle. We have found many drill bits like this at the site, of different size, but have been unsure how they were used. This tool now answers that question. It may be the only complete pre-contact drill of the North.
