Artefact of the Day 22/8

August 24, 2014

Ivory Belt fastenerIMG_4666The artefact of the day was found by Jessie in the house floor from the earlier period house – the house floor that connects the different rooms created in a later phase of the site’s life. It is an ivory belt fastener. It has markings on it that are typical for Bering Sea artwork, including the ravens foot – a symbol that also seems to be used as a ownership mark on many of our objects.
