Artefact of the Day 11/7

July 14, 2015

The artefact of the day is a clay lamp with a wick still intact in situ – found by Renee in the burnt layer. This is an incredible find, unique due to the excellent preservation of organic material at Nunallleq. The wet and cold conditions that preserve the organics works less in favor of clay lamps and other type of ceramics, which is why they perhaps look less exciting than they are.
