Artefact of the Day 6/8

August 8, 2015

IMG_5833IMG_5835The artefact of the day was found in the abandonment – or debris – deposit in between the earliest and the later occupational phases. It is a complete hafted ulu, with calcite insets on the top of the handle. The handle is also painted on one side, with two red dots. We have found a large range of ulus and ulu handles this year, many of them elaborately carved, in the shape of a seal or other animals, and decorated.
