July 3

July 4, 2017

Happy 4th of July blog readers! We are celebrating by going out to the site in very fine weather. Yesterday we were struggling on in the rain, but it cleared up in the late afternoon. The excavation is progressing nicely, despite a small crew. Some new house floors and boardwalks/floors have been discovered. We’re in the earliest phase of the house, just before it was abandoned for a longer time before being rebuilt in a later stage to the shape and form we are familiar with from the already excavated occupation phases. The architecture of this older house is very different, so everything is unknown and very exciting, but also hard to figure out due to numeral disturbances from later site activity. Keep your eyes on the plog to see what we come up with 🙂

Thanks for the blog. I was part of two unguided float trips on the Kanektok in 1987 and 1988. We celebrated the 4th on the river in 1988. Both trips remain as incredible experiences. I tried to arrange a float trip on the Arolik for 1989 even talking to the president of the corporation requesting permission but could not get a trip arranged. Being able to keep up with the area through your blog has been special.

Great to hear you are making progress despite the weather. Thanks for sharing.
