Artefact of the day 8/7

July 9, 2017

The artefact of the day is a beautifully made ivory tool handle. It was found by Véro, embedded in grass matting on the house floor.

It was probably used for a tattoo needle, or may have been for a sewing tool. It is inset with small wooden plugs. The distal end has a small socket to hold the needle. We have found two tattoo needles in previous years, all ornate and delicately made.
