The lab is ready to go…

July 10, 2017

Today is Sunday, and supposedly our day off, but Rick has been working all day with parts of the crew to set up the lab at the newly established Nunalleq Culture and Archaeology Center. It is a former school building, completely remodeled and refitted by the Qanirtuuq Corporation. The workroom will serve as a field and conservation lab during the field season and a culture center during the winter months. A collection storage room takes up the other half of the building and will hold the Nunalleq collection when it is returned in 2018.

What a wonderful new facility. Congratulations to everyone on the NAP! Congratulations to the community of Quinhagak. The excavation looks amazing… but I am sorry to see the amount of seacliff retreat. Not surprised, but sorry nonetheless. Have a wonderful season everyone!
