Packing procedures
March 19, 2018
The process of packing the Nunalleq artifacts for their return to Alaska begins with taking a photograph of each piece along with its catalogue number. That way we have a record of the condition of each item in the collection before it travels. This photo shows a group of decorated labrets, lip plugs probably worn by most residents at the site.
Most of the labrets found at Nunalleq were made from wood. But this pre-packing photo shows the far less common examples made from stone, ivory and antler.
