Artefact of the Day (Friday) the 13th of July
July 15, 2018
The artefact of the day is a complete child’s bow made out of a strip of baleen. Notches on the staves suggest that it may have been backed with braided sinew. It was found in the ‘new’ house – the last phase of occupation at Nunalleq.

I wonder if this bow was used for hunting or play? Pretty terrific find.
What an amazing piece, one of many that have been found during the Sierra Club service trip. I’d like to thank the author(s) of this blog for allowing me to follow this intrepid group’s adventures over the past week from a couple thousand miles away!
