Artefact of the Day July 30

July 31, 2018

The artefact of the day is a complete full size caribou mask. It was found by Charlotta at the base of the wall in the NE corner of the house. This belongs to the very first occupation at the site, so this caribou has sitting hidden in the sod wall of the house for almost as long as the house stood there. As you can see it is a bit less well preserved than the other masks we have found, and this is probably the reason.

This is the happiest and most friendly looking mask we have found. It seems fitting that a happy caribou should have protected the house through the ages.

Ah, yes, a happy caribou protecting the house. Nice thought.
